My friend and I recently dined at Wool Growers. I was very satisfied with the scampi I ordered. However, my friend who ordered the roast lamb was very disappointed. She requested the lamb to be rare. When it arrived it was so over cooked that she couldn't eat it. She tried to find any pink in the meat but was unsuccessful. The kitchen should know the difference between rare and well done. When she told the waitress her entree was not tender...far from it...the waitress said.."hmmm that's unusual" and walked away. My friend also mentioned it to the hostess who didn't have much to say either. Our bill was over $60.00 not including the gratuity. A free dessert could have been offered at the least. This really left a bad taste in our mouth (pun intended). We've decided to try Benji's next time.

This is a classic Bakersfield spot. Not only that, but you'll get have a unique experience much of the world misses out on: A family-style Basque meal. I've been visiting Woolgrowers half my life (20 years) and it is definitely one of my favorite spots. The food is classic, and therefore the menu has hardly had to change. Pickled tongue was introduced to me here, and I cannot imagine a life without it :)

Basque food set in a family dining atmosphere. Make sure to save a lot of room because the food is not only really good, it is plentiful.
